David D. Saunders

Director of Drone Operations

David D. Saunders is a seasoned aviation leader and Director of Drone Operations at Sotera. With over 30 years of experience in airborne operations and public safety, he now specializes in UAV/RPA missions including, security, aerial photography, mapping, structural inspections, 2D scanning, and 3D modelling.

He retired from York Regional Police as Operations Sergeant of the Air Support Unit, where he led flight operations, crew management, and mission execution. David is a Transport Canada Advanced Pilot and holds Aviation Unit Manager and Aviation Safety Management certifications through the Airborne Public Safety Association, where he previously served as Canadian Director.

His strong foundation in leadership, safety management, and high-risk operations is built on 32 years of police service, advanced Search & Rescue qualifications, and prior service as a paratrooper in the Canadian Armed Forces.

David brings proven expertise in regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and team leadership to drone programs.
